JUAREZ CARTELS AND FRIEDMAN

There was an article on Sunday February 28 on cnn saying that they captured the third member of the cartel Juarez involved in the shooting of 15 kids in Juarez earlier last month. The state of Juarez has always had problems with killings especially of young women but in The beginning of the year when president Calderon thought things were going to get better actually got worse. In a brutal massacre about 15 men came into a birthday and just started shooting everybody there was at least fifteen dead kids. People want to know why the police didn’t come to the rescue quicker and the answer there is because either there aren’t enough police to cover the shooting or they were too scared. The real reason is because the police were actually in on the shooting they got paid to kill but not the bad but the innocent. The media ask president Calderon about the assassination and he just answers saying that these kids were not just any kids that they were gangbangers or a term that he said “pandilleros”.
The ethical thing to do was to capture the criminals which is capture the policemen that were in on it and capture the government. But you need to start with the head of the organization which is the president. He covers up for the wrong doings of the cartels because he funds them. Friedman believes that the government should not play a role in what the people do. They should play a small role but hardly any. He believes in free market economy system. The cartels that is how they work they do their things legally or illegally. The majority of the stuff they do is illegal but the government has no say in what they do. The government has no say because they are in on it.
The problem here is with corruption how are they going to find a president who is not corrupt and is willing to run for office without getting death threats from the cartels. The answer is that there is no on because they all like to get paid their huge sums of money to keep their mouth shuts. So until there is someone who is man enough to stop the cartels and stop their free market economy then there will always be cartels.
Their free market economy starts off with their soaring sales in cocaine marihuana and other chemical drugs that they distribute to the U.S. they do not get charged taxes because they do not get caught. They also have businesses were they do not get taxed as long as the money they are making goes to the well being of the cartels then no one gets involved and no one gets mad. They use the money for legit businesses in any field the majority is in the automotive field like and also truckers.

  1. I agreew with you on this one. Friedman believes in a limited power of government, and the fact that the President is covering the criminals goes against the roles of government for Friedman. According to him, government should strictly have the roles of protecting the citizens, and assuring a competitive marketplace. Even if the murdered kids WERE bad people, this still should not have happened.
    GOod article!

  2. I see your point of view. In this case, the government profits from the deaths of many citizens. The government is corrupt and if they were to follow Friedman’s idea of the government as only acting as an “umpire” then hopefully this would not allow the government to profit from illegal activity. Also, there is an ongoing debate on whether to legalize drugs. I think if they were to follow Friedman, drugs will become legal. They are illegal because the government says it’s illegal. There is debate saying that because drugs are illegal, violence occurs. If they were to become legal the violence would decrease and could generate positive money to the economy. The drugs would be introduced to the private sector legally and the market will sort out any problems. However, since the country does not follow Friedman, the government can decided whether or not drugs could be legalized.

  3. In government you need checks and balances. Limiting it would lead to more chaos in Mexico. I know most of the presidents of Mexico have been corrupt, but it is up to the citizens to stop it. Friedman believes in limiting government; if limited, it would lead to illigal business, like the cartels. The government can prevent it from happening. According to Friedman, that is what government should do, umpire.

  4. I have never heard anything like this in my life. The policemen paying people to shoot come in a party and kill the "bad guys"...unbelievable. I was always a little cloudy in my understanding of Friedman, but if limiting the role of Goverment and federal authority would mean that they would not have the power to do things like being involved in the drug cartel business and killing off the "bad guys" then yes I agree that the goverment should be incredibly limited.

  5. I think when Friedman discusses his theory on the role of government, he didn't mean for it to be applied to this situation. I don't really think it can be applied to the situation because what they are doing is completely illegal. Friedmans principles beliefs on free market economy cannot be applied to a completwly corrupt and illegal system.
